The NAMS
Downtown Seattle is in need of an Architecture and Neuroscience Museum and research center, so a solution is The Neuro Arch Museum of Seattle.
One of the goals for the NAMS is to revitalize the area of the waterfront and to encourage Seattleites and tourists to visit and to make a direct connection to the city. The goal was accomplished because of the monumental window facades facing the waterfront and Western Ave. this attraction pulls people towards the main promenade of the building and curve facing waterfront at Alaskan Way and Seneca st., the observatory is a homage to the memory of the curve to commemorate the history of Seattle.
The second goal is to showcase architecture and how it can improve the experience for the user. It was accomplished by the varying elevations displayed throughout the building as part of the experiential promenade. The curved walls allow for a tranquil shift between spaces and an undisturbed view of the Waterfront and angles to excite. By playing with the porosity of both the horizontal and vertical planes is another way to get a hint of what is next to see.
For these reasons, the NAMS is an exemplary building to champion neuroscience and architecture. It will be an important building for Seattle, because of its innovated approaches to attract and spread the stance neuroscience has on architecture.
